2024 Makers Market Debrief

Hi all!

A couple of weeks ago, we concluded a long day of hosting our second Makers Market and we’re so excited that we got to meet so many people who generously supported the Farhat family.

We were able to raise $2324, our most successful event so far (by almost $1000!).

We could not have done this without the generous support of various community organizations, artists, and makers. In addition to the items for sale, we were generously donated some items to put together some auction baskets.

We’d like to thank Fairview Baptist Church for renting us the room for a very reasonable rate and generously providing all of the tables and other set up materials that we could need. Also, we’re very grateful for the assistance of the Fairview service of The Way Church Vancouver in putting us in contact with Fairview Baptist and covering our rental fee. We were also able to advertise the sale with our posters at The Way Church Vancouver, and also Beaucoup Bakery on Fir Street.

We were inundated with support from local craftspeople and artists. We had eleven contributors this year who donated their work and without them, this would not have been possible. Since a few of the contributors don’t have business pages, I’m unsure about posting their names and social media information here, but I’ll link to it on a post in my instagram. Of particular note is the massive contribution from the staff and members of Cafe Au Clay, a charming pottery studio where I am a somewhat regular member.

We had much better success this year based on our advertising strategy. Posters in the Kitsilano and Fairview neighbourhoods worked best when they were posted in the residential streets, and the one poster at the Firehall branch of the Vancouver Public Library had a huge impact on attracting people to the market. Next year, we won’t post anything to the busier streets, since those posters were taken down within a couple of days.

If you are interested in making a tax-receiptable donation as a part of your normal winter holiday giving, please click the “Donate Here” link above on the website.

Thank you so much, see you next year!
