April 2024 Update
Hi everyone.
Just a short update, and some hints at what is to come this summer.
First, we have some positive news about the two siblings that we’ve sponsored so far: we’ve gotten confirmation from IRCC that the applications were correctly filed and will be moving to next steps. I know this doesn’t sound terribly exciting, but each step of this journey we’re keeping our fingers crossed that all of the paperwork is up to spec so that things go as smoothly as possible. This kind of news is the best news we can get right now.
Secondly, we’ve updated the fundraising goal on our donation website. Before, we had the goal set at $70k, but that was due to a miscommunication on my part. We’ve always known that for the six siblings, we would need around $120k total since it’s typically $20k per adult. The exact number for the Farhat family is actually closer to $114k since there is a married couple (they need less support than two single adults), but the minimum financial support required has been increasing every year. We opted for a nice round number that would be a natural goal for the whole family.
As for this summer, we’re working on organizing our second annual bike wash and tune-up for late April or early May. In particular, we’re working on finding a venue that can accommodate us since the parking lot to our building is not available this year. We need about three parking spots worth of space and access to running water, hopefully somewhere close to a major bike route. I’ll keep you up to date when things start to crystalize.
We’re also contemplating on doing a summer market, similar to our Maker Market last November.
Thank you so much for being a part of this journey to bring the Farhat family home, bless you.
