The 2024 Bike Wash

This year, we moved locations for our Bike Wash and Tune Up to Woodland Park in Vancouver. The Woodland Park Community Garden were so accommodating and gave us permission to set up adjacent to their space and use their water for the day. Our Community Bikes also helped us connect with them in the first place, and advertised for us by having our poster in their shop. Bicicleta, Bomber Brewing and Off the Rail Brewing, Mah Milk Bar, and Prado Cafe also agreed to host our flyer on their community boards and their front counters; we’re so grateful to our neighbour organizations.

The Uptown Swing Collective (an organization that promotes 1940s-style swing dance events in New Westminster and the Lower Mainland) was a massive support; they gifted us the canopy that we were able to use. We’re so excited to think of the events that are now possible that we have a guaranteed shade and rain cover.

Overall, we were able to clean and service 30 bikes and raise just over $1060! This has been our most successful event so far and are so glad we could meet so many people that were passionate about cycling and helping out others in need. This puts our total fundraising to just over $71,000 (the funds won’t show up on the MCC tracker until the cheque is received by them and deposited).

After the success of this event, we’re thinking about other ways we can run bike clinics or similar events in the city; there’s certainly an appetite for cyclists to make sure that their bikes are running properly.
